The 16th main crew`s (HM-16) mission on the space station MIR lasted from 1 July 1994 to the 4 November 1994 (a total of 126 days). The crew consisted of the commandant (KO) of the crew Yuri Ivanovich Malenchenko and the board engineer (BI) Talgat Amangeldyevich Musabayev. The scientific cosmonaut (WK), Dr. Valeri Vladimirovich Poljakov, who has been working on the space station as a member of HM-15 6 months before, continued his work now as a member of HM-16.

Modificated experiment equipments and -methodes
To increase the scientific power and precision, in the phase RLF-2 and RLF-3 modified versions of the equipments respectively methodes were used compared to AUSTROMIR-91 and the phase RLF-1. In the following experiments of the phase RLF-2 the modified versions of the equipments and methodes were used:
Experiment | Modifications to the former phases | |
---|---|---|
in hardware | in methodology | |
MONIMIR-2 | new assembly robotics of the cameras, modified beam and helm for the more accurate survey of the measured variables and increasing of the amount of the visual target points | Randomizing of the target points, recording of the electrophysiological parameters with cinematic energy |
OPTOVERT-2 | new gear box with more powerful chip | flaring and recessing of the program to examine the visual-vestibulary interactions |
COGIMIR-2 | Supplement by a lightmetall-tubus to cut out the ambient environment | Cutting out the annoyance generating influences from extern visuale information on the visuale perception |
DATAMIR (Software) |
new software version to operate the modified experiments and to record data | – |
This apparatures were transported to the space station timely before the beginning of the phase RLF-2 , so that at the beginning of the phase experiments with the new methodology could be carried out. Primary the application of the modified apparature KYMO for the experiments MIKROVIB, PULSTRANS, SLEEP, and NIGHT in the phase RLF-2 was planned; but because of unexpected complications during the developement of this apparature its application was delayed into the phase RLF-3.
